Dentistry
Springfield District Veterinary Clinic staff take dental health seriously.
Each dental patient has their teeth graded, a thorough inspection of each tooth which involves probing and charting any abnormalities is performed under general anaesthesia, then a plan is charted if any teeth require extracting. Every tooth is thorougly scaled with an ultrasonic cleaner above and below the gum line, and then polished.
Local anaesthetic injections are given prior to any tooth extraction to ensure patient comfort and longer acting pain relief is also given.
Each patient is sent home with a report of their dental procedure, including a before and after photograph, and a chart showing if any teeth were missing, and any teeth that were extacted. Home care notes are also given to maintain healthy teeth at home.
If any extractions were performed, our veterinarians will provide a complimentary check up 7 days later, to ensure adequate healing.
