Adorable Kittens for Adoption

The pet store has 2 delightful male kittens available for adoption, and 2 very cute male Jack Russell Terrier-cross puppies.   They are very affectionate and would love a visit for a cuddle and a play.

Charity Day Report

Thank you to all our customers who recently supported our Charity Day.  With your help, SDVC raised $1162 which will go to Ipswich Care towards providing water filtration in Bangladesh.

Fleas

With the warming weather, flea populations are increasing.  Fleas not only make our pets itchy, but heavy burdens may also cause anaemia.  Fleas also carry tapeworm!  The fleas that you see on your pet are only about 5% of the problem; you also need to treat the environment!  Here are some useful tips for controlling fleas but see our website for more details:

  • Use monthly flea prevention products on all pets in the house – ‘Comfortis’ monthly chews are our product of choice
  • Vacuum carpets regularly
  • Wash bedding and leave in the sun for 24 hours
  • Insecticide treatment for inside and outside the house

Choosing the Right Pet

Christmas is fast approaching and a cute puppy or kitten may be on the wish list!  It is very important to research which breed will best suit your family and lifestyle to avoid incompatibility.  Consider the space available, time you have free for exercise and grooming, temperament and finances (large breeds need a lot of dog food!). ‘Select a Dog’ (http://www.pedigree.com.au/adultdog/choose.asp) may be a useful resource during the decision making process.  SDVC staff are most happy to answer questions you may above about choosing the right pet.  Remember, pets are forever, not just for Christmas!
