Habitat Destruction is a Huge Problem in our Community!
Members of BARN (Brisbane Area Rescue Network) wildlife group are putting huge efforts into reducing significant wildlife habitat clearing in the Greenbank / Flagstone area. Development scheduled to start within 12 months will see 10 000 acres of habitat destroyed with loss of wild life including quolls and sugar gliders. SDVC are proud advocates for caring for our precious ecosystems and maintaining biodiversity. Please spread the word - anyone can make an objection, not just people who live in this area. This is a problem that affects everyone! Time is running out to alter these development plans so please visit http://www.savegreenbank.com.au/ for more details on how you can help stop the destruction and possible extinction of our local species!!
Reducing Stress in Your Pet
The clinic has in stock two excellent products, Feliway and DAP, to help reduce stress and anxiety in dogs and cats. These are useful to help your pets cope with the stress they may feel when routines are changed, and help new puppies and kittens settle into their new home. Please enquire at reception.
Kittens for Adoption
The pet shop has 4 adorable kittens available for adoption to good homes. They love to play and are very affectionate so come in for a look and a cuddle!
Pet Phobias
With the recent wild weather and festive season we are seeing dogs with storm and fireworks phobias. These vary from pacing, shaking and drooling to the more extreme reactions of panic and escape with the latter often resulting in destruction and / or injury to your pet. Some staffies are particularly at risk, (one particular staffie climbed onto the roof of its home during an anxiety attack). Behavioural modification techniques or medication may be required to help your pet. Please make an appointment if you are concerned your pet may be showing signs of such phobias. Having your pet microchipped will help to return your furry family members to you, should they go missing!
Interesting Fact!
We might think our cats are old at 15 or so, but the oldest cat in the UK was 37 years old! Older cats who are unwell can often still be treated. It is not entirely unusual for us to see cats in this practice nearing their 21st birthday ! Quality food and good dental care contribute hugely to longevity in cats.
