How to Administer Ear Drops
If your pet has an ear infection, you may be required to administer ear drops several times a day.
The infection may be causing your pet’s ears to be painful and they may respond by backing away or even trying to bite. You may need an assistant to help and possibly a muzzle.
Make sure you know if you are treating both ears, how much to give and how often.
Pull the ear straight up against the head, and identify the largest opening - this is where you will place the tip of the dropper.
Squeeze the number of drops into the ear canal.
Gently massage the base of the ear canal in a circular motion - you should hear the medication squelching as you do this.
Stand back as your dog shakes his head - it may make a bit of a mess!
Repeat with the other ear if required.
Give lots of praise and a treat.
Please ask SDVC staff for assistance if you are having trouble!
